Matthew
Hake
Matt Hake was born and raised in
St. Louis,
MO, where he taught Instrumental Music in the Saint Louis Public Schools.
Currently he teaches General and Instrumental Music Grades K-8 at Immaculate
Conception School in Columbia,
IL. He earned his B.M.E from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and M.A. in Jazz
Studies from Webster
University. While at Webster
University
he served as Graduate Assistant. Matt studied classical percussion with Tom
Stubbs of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra and drum set with Kevin Gianino.
Matt performed with the
St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra, the St. Louis Philharmonic and is the former
President and Principal Percussionist of the St. Louis Brass Band. He was
invited to perform with the Chicago Brass Band at the World Music Festival in
Kerkrade
,
Holland
and tour of
Holland. Currently Matt performs solo concerts on the vibraphone. His repertoire
includes music by contemporary jazz artists Aaron Parks, Joe Locke, Jonathan
Kreisberg, Kurt Rosenwinkel and jazz standards.
Under Matt Hake’s
direction, the Immaculate Conception School Concert Band has received First and
First Superior ratings at the Illinois Grade School Music Association State
Contest. Matt was nominated for Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and he
was awarded the Immaculate Conception School Teacher Spotlight, sponsored by
Edward Jones. In August 2007, Mr. Hake conducted the pit orchestra for the
Columbia Summer Theater production of The Music Man.
In July 2009, he conducted the pit orchestra for Hail Columbia
II marking the 150th anniversary of Columbia,
IL. Matt Hake lives in
South
County, with his wife Molly, daughters Maria, Ava and son Charlie.
