| United Churches of Christ are governed locally. Christ is the only acknowledged leader of the church, so that no church hierarchy manages local church affairs. Each congregation practices its own forms of organization, worship, education, and mission. Individual congregations work together through Associations and Conferences like the Illinois South Conference. |
The Consistory manages the affairs of the church between congregational meetings.

The Illinois South Conference of the United Church of Christ has its offices at 1312 Broadway, P.O. Box 325, Highland, Illinois 62249. (618) 654-2125. Along with administrative offices, this building houses the lending library of printed resources (front lobby) and videos. Meet Conference staff and get direct links to their e-mail.
The Annual Meeting of the Conference is held once a
year, to celebrate Christ's presence among us and to conduct the
business of the Conference.
General Synod meets every two years, and includes about 700 delegates who are elected by UCC Conferences. At least half the delegates are lay people. The General Synod elects national officers, adopts a national church budget, and attempts to express the sense of the whole church.
