Urban Mission Experience (UME) was birthed by a group of experienced mission trip leaders in the United Church of Christ.

The goals of UME are to:

  • financially support urban churches,
  • introduce mission trip visitors to some of the best mission agencies in the St. Louis area, and
  • live out Micah 6:6-8:  "No, the Lord has told us what is good.  What He requires of us is this:  to do what is just, to show constant love, and to live in humble fellowship with our God." 

 

Is there anything FUN to do in St. Louis?

  • Baseball--major league St. Louis Cardinals and two minor league teams.
  • World-class zoo.  Free admission.
  • Museums--art, science, and natural history
  • The Arch
  • Six Flags Amusement and Water Park
  • City Museum--the UN-Museum (you have to see it to believe it)
  • Oodles of Malls--one with indoor ice skating, movies, and NASCAR driving!
  • Muny Opera (musicals staged in an outdoor amphitheatre), with some FREE seating.
  • Holocaust Museum
  • Bowling Hall of Fame and Dog Museum--no joke.

Just the Facts

Housing

You will sleep "lock-in style" on the floor of the church, so bring your air mattress.  Showers are available off-site. 
A full kitchen is available for your use.
A safe and convenient area of the city.

Ages

UME is designed for high school aged youth.  If you have younger persons in your broadly graded youth group, call and let us discuss possible arrangements.

Adult Supervision

Each group must provide a 1 to 5 adult to youth ratio.

Length of Stay

To have the full Urban Mission Experience, we suggest a minimum of four days.  Other options are available..

Cost

A non-refundable "Save the Date" fee of $200 is payable at the time of reserving your week.  We reserve weeks up to one year in advance.
A donation of $25 per person per night is appreciated.

Evening Programming

A poverty education program, dinner, and activity with the host church are available.

Mission Opportunities

UME will coordinate four days of work for your group with at least two different mission agencies.  You will be responsible for transportation to and from the mission site.

Hospitality

Each church and agency in our partnership has been trained to provide you an extravagant welcome.
You will be greeted upon your arrival.
You will have a phone number for 24 hour contact with your local mission coordinator.
The church you are staying at has their welcome mat ready and is eager to meet you!
