Everyday Materials
Classroom
Expectations
1. Be prepared! You should be in your assigned
seat with everyday materials and completed homework when the bell rings. Students who are not in their assigned seat
will be considered tardy. Students
should begin bell work as soon as they are seated. Materials to leave outside the classroom
include personal notes, homework for another class, food, and drink.
2. Be respectful of others and the property of others. In order to gain respect, you should show respect for the teacher, one another, and the classroom environment. Please listen to directions the first time they are given, and wait to be called on before speaking. Since you are seated in groups, it is necessary for you to modify your voice according to the activity taking place.
3. Be productive by using time efficiently
to improve your reading and writing skills.
Participate in class. You are expected to listen actively during and
contribute to small and large group discussions. When given, use class time to complete
assignments. This will allow students to
receive help when necessary.
Consequences
I will use the following consequences if these expectations are not met.
1. a verbal warning
2. Room 209 morning conference from
3. parent contact
4. office referral
For certain offenses, any of the above consequences may be omitted at my discretion.
Rewards
To students who are regularly prepared, respectful, and productive, I award terrific tickets to let them know how much I appreciate their positive behavior. If you earn tickets on any given day, you should write your first and last name on the ticket. Put your ticket in the ticket box just for your class. Ticket drawings will take place on Fridays. Three winners will be selected from each class, and they may choose from the following prizes: a homework coupon (turn in an assignment one day late with no penalty), 5 extra credit points, or 5 more tickets. Prize choices may vary throughout the year.
Classroom Policies
Homework
Assignments are weighted once, twice, or three times when grades are averaged. In class, we will call them single, double, or triple grades. Single and double grade assignments will not be accepted late. Students will not be allowed to return to their locker to get homework or to show me their work at a later time. However, triple grade assignments, due to their importance and length, will be accepted late but not for full credit. I will grade the assignment as usual, but I will reduce the score by one letter grade for everyday it is late. For example, if an essay is due on Tuesday, but it is turned in on Thursday, the highest score it can receive is a C+ if it would have originally earned an A+. Students are expected to create their own original work for essays. Plagiarism is cheating; papers with any trace of plagiarism from any source will receive a zero and an automatic detention.
Absentee Work
For each excused absence, students will have one school day
to make up assignments. If you have
Internet access while you are absent, please check the assignment calendar
linked to my website, www.htc.net/~thehuels. Check the homework folder for any missed
handouts. Students must make an effort
to get information and schedule appointments with me if necessary. Students may seek help on an assignment as time allows during the period, at
the end class, or before/after school.
If students do not schedule a makeup appointment for a quiz/test, they
will receive a zero. If they miss a
scheduled appointment, they will receive a zero. Students who are absent due to a suspension
must turn in work by
Participation
In order to encourage a positive classroom environment, I will average a triple grade for participation into each quarter grade. Students who contribute to class discussions and activities on a regular basis will be rewarded. Students who are absent, who do not participate, or who conduct themselves in a negative manner will lose points for this grade. Realize you can help your grade just by making the right choice regarding your actions in the classroom.
I have read the letter and
attached handout. I understand the
policies and procedures. I will do my
best in order to promote success this year.
