Internet Service

In a few weeks, you’ll likely be doing some spring cleaning in your home, but there’s no reason to wait that long to clean out your computer. February 11th is National Clean Out Your Computer Day, a great reminder to declutter, update, and improve security settings on your laptop or PC. It may seem like a daunting task, but it really doesn’t take long. And just like when you’re finished cleaning the house, you’ll feel so good when it’s done!

Why You Should Clean Out Your Computer

There are lots of good reasons to tackle the mess of apps, documents, photos and other files on your computer. Here are just a few:

Boost productivity. With HTC’s reliable Internet, you’ve already got a jump on productivity, but if your desktop is cluttered with shortcut icons and your files are stored all over the place, there’s no way you can quickly access what you’re looking for. Delete items you no longer need and organize your files into folders that make sense, and you’ll be able to find things much faster.

Speed up your computer. Many apps and cloud-based applications can slow your Internet down, even with HTC’s fast Internet. Close those you aren’t using and you’ll be surprised how much faster your Internet connection is. Clearing your hard drive of programs that take up memory space will also allow your device to work more efficiently.

Protect your privacy. There may be viruses and malware in your computer that threaten your personal information. It’s a good idea to look for these regularly and get rid of them. And don’t forget to check out HTC’s SecureIT Web Security, it can help put your privacy fears to rest.

Important Things to Keep In Mind While Cleaning Your Computer

Once you get started, don’t get so busy cleaning that you forget to follow these precautions before you begin.

Start with a scan. It’s important to first check for malware in your files. If you don’t have antivirus software, download one and then run a scan.

Back up important files. Since you may miss an important file or photo in the deleting process, make sure to copy all your files to an external hard drive or cloud first.

If you’ve never heard of it, don’t remove it. Some programs may have been pre-installed that are vital to your computer’s functionality, so until you have time to research exactly what it is, don’t delete it.
